Discover Casa Di Gio's - Ristorante Pizzeria

If you find yourself wandering through the windswept beauty of Texel and end up near Kikkertstraat 30, 1795 AD De Cocksdorp, Netherlands, there’s a good chance you’ll hear locals recommending Casa Di Gio's - Ristorante Pizzeria without hesitation. I stopped by on a chilly afternoon after a long bike ride across the dunes, craving something hearty and comforting. What I found was more than just a pizza place-it felt like a warm Italian living room tucked into the northernmost village of the island.

From the outside, the restaurant has a relaxed, welcoming vibe. Step in, and the scent of freshly baked dough and simmering tomato sauce instantly sets the mood. The menu leans heavily into classic Italian cuisine: wood-fired pizzas, handmade pasta, antipasti platters, and a carefully curated wine list featuring Italian and European selections. I ordered a traditional Margherita first-because if a pizzeria gets that right, everything else usually follows. The crust arrived perfectly blistered, airy yet crisp, with San Marzano-style tomato sauce and creamy mozzarella that melted just enough to stretch with every bite.

According to the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana, authentic Neapolitan pizza depends on high hydration dough, quality flour, and extremely hot ovens. While Casa Di Gio's isn’t marketing itself as strictly Neapolitan, the texture and flavor balance suggest the kitchen respects those traditional processes. The dough had clearly been fermented long enough to develop complexity, something you can taste in the slight tang and light structure. That kind of attention to preparation doesn’t happen by accident.

Beyond pizza, the pasta dishes deserve attention. On my second visit-yes, I went back-I tried a seafood linguine inspired by coastal Italian recipes. Fresh mussels, shrimp, and calamari were folded into a light garlic and white wine sauce. The balance was impressive; nothing overpowered the delicate seafood. The portion sizes were generous but not excessive, aligning with what many nutrition experts, including guidelines from the World Health Organization, consider moderate dining portions. It’s indulgent, yet it doesn’t feel heavy.

What stands out most is consistency. I spoke with a couple at the next table who mentioned they’ve been coming here every summer for years. Their reviews echoed what I experienced: reliable quality, friendly service, and fair pricing for Texel standards. In a tourist-friendly location like De Cocksdorp, restaurants can sometimes lean on foot traffic rather than craftsmanship. Here, the kitchen clearly focuses on maintaining standards.

The staff adds to the charm. Service is informal but attentive. During one busy evening, I noticed how efficiently the team handled a full dining room without rushing guests. Orders flowed smoothly from kitchen to table, and special dietary requests-like gluten-free pizza bases-were accommodated without fuss. That flexibility reflects an understanding of modern dining needs, something the European Food Information Council often highlights as increasingly important for today’s consumers.

The wine selection complements the food thoughtfully. A medium-bodied Chianti paired beautifully with a pepperoni pizza loaded with spicy salami and fresh basil. If wine isn’t your thing, there’s also a decent range of beers and non-alcoholic drinks. Families will appreciate the kid-friendly menu options, while couples can easily turn dinner into a relaxed, romantic evening.

Location matters, too. Being situated on Kikkertstraat makes it easy to reach whether you’re staying nearby or exploring the northern lighthouse area. After dinner, a short walk through De Cocksdorp’s quiet streets rounds out the experience nicely. Parking is straightforward, though during peak summer weeks, it’s wise to reserve a table in advance.

Transparency builds trust, and it’s worth noting that like many popular island restaurants, wait times can stretch during high season. Planning ahead solves that easily. Prices reflect the island setting but remain reasonable compared to other Dutch coastal destinations.

All things considered, this ristorante and pizzeria blends authentic Italian flavors with Dutch island hospitality. It’s the kind of place where you can come in sandy from the beach or dressed for a special dinner and feel equally comfortable, enjoying honest food crafted with care and served with genuine warmth.

  • Well it's actually a very good restaurant regarding the food. However the payment process is really strange. You have to pay inside at the register after your meal. But they don't tell you that unless you ask, and they will say "en casa" in Italian. At first I didn't understand and thought like "want cassa" like I wanted to pay cash or something. Anyway, inside they will tell you the total that you owe but they wait for you to round it up with a tip. I feel strange giving a tip at a register. I had them pay me out the full change and then decided to give 2 Euros afterwards as tip. It was really awkward.

  • Great Italian restaurant in the center of a village. Very close to bike pick-up location. Everything was super tasty and cooked fast. We were in particular group of 8 people with 4 hungry kids and staff made it possible for us to get a table without reservation and made pizzas for kids very quickly.

  • Fabulous sourdough pizza. We had a chicken soup to warm up after a cold day and it just did the trick. Nice relaxing atmosphere. Will definitely come back. Thank you!
